Juniperus communis var. saxatilis, or mountain juniper, is an accepted variety in the cypress family. Kew records it as a subshrub or shrub native from Nova Scotia to Greenland and across subarctic to subalpine Eurasia to the western United States.

What you receive

This listing supplies five berries containing approximately 25 seeds in total. Seed count is approximate because the number inside natural berries can vary.

Growing from seed

Common juniper seed has complex dormancy. USDA guidance reports that germination is difficult and generally requires a warm period followed by a cold period. Keep the stratification medium moist and aerated, and expect results to vary by seed source and conditions. Scarification or removing the seed coat alone is not a substitute for the temperature sequence.
