About Plantago ovata
Plantago ovata is an accepted annual species in the Plantaginaceae family. It forms a low rosette of narrow leaves and upright, compact flower spikes and is associated with dry and open habitats.
Also known as: Isabgol, Isabgul, Ispaghula, Blond psyllium, Desert Indianwheat, Plantago ispaghula and Plantago insularis.
Sowing guide
- Use a fine, free-draining seed mix and a shallow tray or prepared seedbed.
- Sow the small seeds on the surface or cover only very lightly.
- Press gently for good seed-to-soil contact and water with a fine spray.
- Keep evenly moist until emergence, then provide bright light and good air movement.
Avoid deep burial and prolonged waterlogging. Thin crowded seedlings so their rosettes have room to develop.
Growing on
Grow in bright conditions and a draining soil. Water when the surface starts to dry, without leaving plants standing in water. This annual completes its cycle through flowering and seed production.
This listing is for botanical growing only and makes no food or medical-use claim. Any intended consumption must follow applicable local guidance and product-quality controls.
Seed note: Seeds are living material. Germination speed and percentage vary with seed age, temperature, moisture and local growing conditions. Record the sowing date and treatment so later batches can be adjusted.
