American Bakh. Nicotiana Seeds

American Bakh. is a Nicotiana variety of the species Nicotiana tabacum, offered here as seed for growing the plant in a garden. The listing name is the only variety detail on file: the product card has no photographs yet and does not record height, leaf type or flower colour, so this page stays with what is known about the species and makes no claims specific to this variety.

These are names of the species Nicotiana tabacum. "American Bakh." is the name this variety carries in our listing, and we have no record of how or where the line was selected.

Sowing and early care

No seed specifications have been saved for this variety, so the notes below are general practice for Nicotiana tabacum seed, not measurements from a particular seed lot.

• Sowing: scatter the seed thinly over moist, fine seed-starting mix and press it down lightly. Do not bury it, since the seed relies on light.
• Moisture: keep the surface evenly damp. Mist gently or water from below so the tiny seeds are not washed together.
• Warmth: Nicotiana comes from warm climates, so a warm, bright place suits the tray better than a cold windowsill.
• Crowding: dust-fine seed often comes up in clumps. Thin seedlings, or prick them out into separate cells, once they are big enough to handle.
• Light: give seedlings strong light so they stay compact rather than stretching.

Seedlings grow slowly at first and then speed up as the weather warms. A gradual move outdoors over several days helps young plants adjust before they are planted out.

Site and spacing

Nicotiana tabacum is frost-tender, so plants go outside only after the last frost has passed. Choose a sunny bed with well-drained soil. The leaves are large, so leave generous room between plants for air to move around them. Because the height of American Bakh. is not recorded, judge staking and spacing from how your own plants develop instead of from a fixed figure.

What is not yet recorded

The listing does not yet give a germination percentage, a viability period, a seed size measurement or any field data for this variety. Those details are left out rather than guessed. When photographs and seed specifications are added to the card, this text will be updated to match them.

FAQ

What do American Bakh. seeds need to germinate?

As with other Nicotiana tabacum seed, light, steady moisture and warmth. Place the seed on the surface of the mix without covering it and keep the surface damp. Exact temperature and timing figures for this variety are not recorded on the product card.

When should I sow it?

Sow indoors ahead of the last frost in your area and transplant after frost has passed, because the species is frost-tender. The card gives no number of weeks for this variety, so follow your local conditions.

How tall does it grow?

The product card gives no height for this variety. Nicotiana tabacum is a fast-growing annual, and final size depends on light, soil and spacing, so measure your own plants instead of expecting a set figure.
