Growing Coker 344 from seed

Start the seed indoors, 6-8 weeks before the last frost in your area. Press the seed lightly onto the soil surface and do not bury it, because it needs light to germinate. Keep the soil moist and hold the temperature at about 75 degrees F (24 degrees C). Under these conditions germination typically takes 7-14 days.

Moving seedlings outdoors

Transplant the seedlings outdoors only after the last frost has passed. Space the plants 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) apart in a sunny spot with well-drained, fertile soil. Coker 344 suits a warm, sunny climate, so choose the warmest, brightest place in the garden. Water regularly while the plants establish and feed them occasionally to support steady growth.

The plant is tall, so leave room around it and allow for its 1.5-1.8 m height when you choose a position. Leaves are picked from the bottom of the plant upward as they mature. Because the variety is a type, its leaves are dried in a controlled environment, which brings out the golden colour.
