Tobacco Seeds – Havana 142 (Premium Cigar Binder Variety)
The Havana 142 is a distinguished Nicotiana tabacum variety, originally developed in Wisconsin in the early 20th century. It is a cross between Havana #38 and a variant of Wisconsin Seedleaf known as “Page’s Comstock”. This variety is classified as a cigar binder but is also versatile enough to be used in cigarette and chewing tobacco blends. Its adaptability and rich flavor profile make it a preferred choice for both traditional cigar production and personal cultivation.
Description and Characteristics:
• Plant Structure: Havana 142 is a columnar plant that grows to a height of approximately 4 feet (1.2 meters). Its compact structure makes it suitable for various growing environments.
• Leaf Quality: The plant produces large, light brown leaves upon air curing. These leaves are known for their elasticity and smooth texture, making them ideal for use as cigar binders.
• Flavor Profile: Havana 142 offers a mild, nutty flavor with subtle sweetness, making it perfect for blending or standalone use.
• Adaptability: This variety matures in only 55 days, making it a good choice for areas with short growing seasons. It is also adaptable to various climates, including cooler regions.
Cultivation Guidelines:
1. Seed Germination: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Press seeds lightly onto the soil surface without covering, as they require light for germination.
2. Soil Requirements: Havana 142 thrives in well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of 5.8. Maintaining the appropriate soil pH is crucial for optimal growth.
3. Sunlight and Watering: Provide full sunlight and consistent watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
4. Harvesting and Curing: Harvest leaves individually as they mature, starting from the lower ones. Air cure in a shaded, well-ventilated area to preserve the rich aroma and flavor characteristic of Havana 142.
Why Choose Havana 142 Tobacco?
