About this seed

About berseem clover

Trifolium alexandrinum is an accepted annual species in the legume family Fabaceae. It is commonly known as berseem or Egyptian clover. Kew records a native range from Egypt to Pakistan and associates the plant primarily with the subtropical biome. Plants form leafy stems and rounded to elongated pale flower heads.

Sowing guide

  1. Prepare a fine, firm seedbed or a container filled with free-draining soil.
  2. Sow the small seeds shallowly; deep burial can reduce emergence.
  3. Press the surface gently so the seed has good contact with the soil.
  4. Water with a fine spray and keep evenly moist until seedlings establish.

Choose a mild growing period suited to annual clover in your climate. In hot regions this is often treated as a cooler-season crop; in cold regions frost timing matters.

Growing on

Provide good light and avoid prolonged waterlogging. Thin dense patches so air can move between plants. As a legume, berseem forms associations with compatible soil bacteria, but performance still depends on soil condition, moisture and local management.

This seed listing is intended for botanical and garden growing. Any plan to use a crop as livestock forage should follow local agricultural guidance for variety choice, inoculation, cutting stage and animal management. Seed-grown annual plants complete their cycle after flowering and seed formation.

Seed note: Seeds are living material. Germination speed and percentage vary with seed age, temperature, moisture and local growing conditions. Keep a small record of sowing date and treatment so you can adjust the next batch.
