White Sandalwood Seeds – Santalum album

Also known as: Indian sandalwood, East Indian sandalwood, Chandan, Safed chandan, Srigandha, Chandanam, Sándalo blanco, Santal blanc, Weißes Sandelholz and Sirium myrtifolium.

Santalum album is the classic Indian or White Sandalwood tree, an evergreen tropical species known for its elegant foliage, small fragrant flowers and attractive red to dark purple fruits. The tree develops smooth branches with glossy green leaves arranged in opposite pairs. Small flowers appear in clusters and change from pale green to reddish-purple as they mature. Round fruits develop from green to red and finally dark purple or nearly black.

Santalum album is a hemiparasitic species and grows best when suitable host plants are present nearby. It is an exceptional choice for tropical gardens, botanical collections and specialist seed growers.
