About this species
Wrightia tinctoria is an accepted species in the Apocynaceae family. Kew records it as a tree native from India to Myanmar and associated mainly with seasonally dry tropical habitats. It is commonly known as sweet indrajao and produces paired follicles containing small seeds equipped with silky hairs.
Sowing guide
- Use a clean tray or small pots filled with a fine, free-draining propagation mix.
- Place the small seed on the surface and cover only lightly, keeping the silky end from matting deeply into the medium.
- Mist gently and keep warm in bright, indirect light.
- Maintain even moisture and ventilation without a sealed, saturated surface.
Small wind-dispersed seed is easily displaced by heavy watering. A level surface and gentle mist improve contact. Leave the labelled sowing undisturbed and reduce humidity gradually after emergence.
Seedling care
Increase direct light in stages and pot seedlings on when they can be handled safely. Use a well-drained mix, water when the surface starts to dry and protect tender plants from frost.
This is a woody tree for warm climates, not a guaranteed indoor miniature. Confirm long-term space and climate before permanent planting. As a member of Apocynaceae, plant material should not be treated as edible without qualified guidance.
