Albizia odoratissima is an accepted species in the Fabaceae family. It is a woody tree with finely divided compound leaves, clustered pale flowers and flat seed pods. The photograph shows the exact species with mature pods.
Sowing guide
- Use a clean, free-draining seed mix and a container with open drainage holes.
- Lightly abrade one small part of the hard seed coat without cutting the embryo, then soak the seed in room-temperature water.
- Sow about one seed-width deep, water gently and keep warm in bright, indirect light.
- Keep the mix evenly moist but never saturated, and ventilate covered trays.
Hard-coated seeds can start at different times. Leave sound seeds undisturbed and avoid overwatering while waiting.
Growing on
Once seedlings are established, increase light gradually and pot them separately before roots become crowded. Protect young plants from cold and drying wind. Water thoroughly, allow excess water to drain, and let the surface begin to dry before watering again.
Seed-grown trees are naturally variable and may not reproduce every feature of a selected parent. Check local climate, mature size and planting restrictions before moving a tree outdoors.
