About this seed
Krishna Tulsi is a dark-stemmed form of holy basil, Ocimum tenuiflorum, traditionally grown in South Asian home gardens and temple plantings. Its aromatic foliage, branching habit and small flower spikes make it useful for herb gardens, pollinator beds and botanical collections.
Also known as: Shyama Tulsi, Black tulsi, Purple tulsi, Krishna Tulasi, Tulsi, Holy basil, Sacred basil, Ocimum sanctum (older botanical name), Vrinda and Surasa.
Krishna Tulsi is supplied as a horticultural seed lot; no medicinal, therapeutic or guaranteed chemotype claim is made. Natural variation can occur in colour and growth when plants are raised from seed.
Sow in warm conditions in a clean, fine, free-draining seed-starting mix. Scatter the small seeds on the surface and press them gently into contact with the medium; cover only very lightly because tiny basil seed benefits from light exposure. Mist carefully so the seed is not displaced. Keep the medium evenly moist, never saturated, and provide warmth with bright filtered light.
After emergence, give seedlings good air circulation and gradually stronger light. Thin crowded seedlings early, handling them by the leaves rather than the stem. Transplant into individual cells or pots once they have several true leaves. Move outdoors only after cold conditions have passed, acclimating plants over several days.
Holy basil grows quickly in warm weather and can branch well when the tips are pinched. Use fertile, well-drained soil and water when the surface begins to dry. Container plants need more frequent attention than garden plants.
You will receive seeds only; no plant, dried herb, tea or growing container is included.
