About this seed
Pearl Millet Bajra Seeds — Cenchrus americanus
Choose a packet of 80 or 200 seeds of pearl millet, also called bajra. It is a warm-season annual grass producing upright stems and dense cylindrical seed heads. Planting seed only is supplied.
Sow directly after frost danger has passed and the soil is warm. Prepare a fine seedbed, plant the small seeds shallowly, cover lightly, and water gently. Keep the surface moist during emergence without waterlogging it. Thin crowded seedlings so each plant receives light and air.
Grow in full sun in soil with good drainage. Water regularly while plants establish and during extended dry periods. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can produce soft growth and lodging. Weed early before the roots occupy the row. For grain, allow heads to mature and dry, then cut them before seed is lost to birds or shedding. Finish drying in an airy place before threshing.
Harvested grain requires correct cleaning and processing before culinary use. Store the purchased seed packet closed, labelled, cool, dry, dark, and protected from insects and humidity.
