Sesbania sesban is an accepted Fabaceae species native across tropical and southern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent. Kew describes it as a shrub or tree of seasonally dry tropical habitats. It is often known as Egyptian riverhemp and can grow rapidly where warmth and moisture are available.
Sowing guide
- Soak intact seed in room-temperature water; lightly abrade only seed that does not swell.
