About this seed
About Madagascar almond
Terminalia mantaly is an accepted species in the Combretaceae family. Kew records it as a seasonally dry tropical tree native to Madagascar. It is known in cultivation for a layered branching habit and compact foliage.
Also known as: Mantaly, Madagascar terminalia and Badamier de Madagascar.
Sowing guide
- Use a clean, free-draining seed mix and a deep container.
- Soak the seed in room-temperature water, then sow shallowly.
- Keep warm in bright, indirect light with steady ventilation.
- Water gently and do not leave the container standing in water.
Woody seed can germinate irregularly, so keep the labelled pot undisturbed while the seed remains firm and the medium stays fresh.
Growing on
After emergence, increase light gradually and pot seedlings separately before roots become crowded. Water thoroughly, allow excess water to drain, and let the surface begin to dry before watering again.
Seed-grown trees are naturally variable and may not reproduce every feature of a selected parent. Check local climate, mature size and planting restrictions before moving a tree outdoors.
Seed note: Seeds are living material. Germination speed and percentage vary with seed age, temperature, moisture and local conditions. Label the sowing and keep notes so later batches can be adjusted.
