About this seed

Growing from seed
Nicotiana seed is very fine and needs light to germinate, so it is laid on the surface and never buried. The figures below come from the variety description and are approximate guides, not results measured on a specific seed lot.
Space and site planning
A plant that can reach 2 m with leaves close to 60 cm long needs a sheltered, sunny bed and room for air to move around it. The card gives no planting distance for this cross, so work it out from the leaf size rather than copying a figure from another variety.
What is not yet recorded
No seed specifications have been saved for this cross yet, so this page does not state a germination percentage, a germination temperature, a time to emergence, a viability period or a seed size. Days to flowering, flower colour and the origin of the parent varieties are also missing from the card and are left out rather than guessed.
FAQ
How do I sow Lizard Tail Orinoco x Turtle Foot seeds?
Press them lightly onto the surface of moist, well-drained soil and do not cover them. The seeds need light to germinate, so burying them works against the plant. The card does not give a soil temperature, so keep the tray evenly warm and moist and check it daily.
When should I sow this cross?
The variety description recommends sowing indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost in your area. Seedlings go outdoors once the frost has passed. The card gives no emergence time, so judge the tray by what you see rather than by a fixed number of days.
How tall does it grow?
The product card gives about 6 to 7 feet (1.8 to 2.1 m) for the plant and up to 24 x 12 inches (60 x 30 cm) for the leaves. Real plants vary with light, soil, feeding and spacing, so treat these figures as a planning guide.
