About this seed
Turkish Gold Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum)
General Description
Turkish Gold is a premium oriental tobacco variety known for its rich golden leaves, smooth flavor, and historical significance in traditional Turkish and Balkan-style blends. This heirloom variety has been cultivated for centuries in the warm, arid regions of the Mediterranean, where it developed its distinctively mild yet aromatic character. Highly prized for its sun-cured leaves, Turkish Gold remains a key component in high-quality cigarette and pipe tobacco blends.
Plant Characteristics
Turkish Gold tobacco grows between 100 and 150 cm in height, forming a compact yet vigorous plant with broad, golden-green leaves that mature into a rich yellow hue when fully cured. The leaves are relatively small compared to Virginia or Burley tobacco, typically measuring 20 to 30 cm in length. The plant produces delicate, pinkish-white flowers that add ornamental value. Turkish Gold thrives in warm climates with well-drained, sandy or loamy soils, making it ideal for traditional sun-curing methods.
Taste and Benefits
Turkish Gold tobacco is known for its smooth, slightly sweet, and aromatic flavor profile. It offers a balanced, mild-to-medium nicotine content with subtle spicy and earthy undertones. Unlike heavier tobaccos, this variety is often used as a blending component to add complexity and a rich, mellow finish to smoking mixtures. Due to its natural air-curing properties, Turkish Gold maintains a clean, refined taste without harshness.
Cultivation Recommendations
Turkish Gold tobacco thrives in full sun and well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Seeds should be sown in early spring, either in trays or directly in the field after the last frost. Lightly press the tiny seeds into the surface without covering them, as they require light for germination. Seedlings should be transplanted when they reach 10–15 cm in height, spacing them 50–60 cm apart. Regular watering is necessary during the growing season, but overwatering should be avoided. Leaves are ready for harvest in approximately 70–90 days, with sun-curing preferred to develop the signature golden color and rich aroma.
Uses and Benefits
Turkish Gold tobacco is primarily used in cigarette and pipe blends, contributing a mild, aromatic character with a naturally smooth finish. Its sun-cured leaves provide a distinctive golden hue and balanced nicotine content, making it a preferred choice among tobacco enthusiasts. Beyond smoking applications, the plant serves as a beautiful ornamental feature in gardens due to its tall, flowering stalks and broad, golden-green foliage.
Packaging
The seeds are carefully selected and packed in moisture-resistant packaging to ensure high germination rates and long-term viability.
Shipping Information
Orders are processed within 1–2 days and shipped worldwide, including across India. Delivery typically takes 1–2 weeks, depending on the destination.
